Bighorn
Sheep
Our
desert bighorn hunting takes us to Texas and Old Mexico, while here
at home we have opportunities at both the desert and Rocky Mountain
species.
These hunts
are primarily put on through the use of landowner permits in Texas
and Old Mexico, or through the governor's permit here in New Mexico.
Of course applying for the New Mexico drawing is always an option,
but with low draw odds.
Our Texas
desert bighorn hunt is truly a prestigious hunt with
numerous trophy rams and spectacular country. The ram featured here
was taken in 2001, in an attempt to break the Texas state record.
He was approximately 12 year old and scored 175 7/8 SCI. These hunts
are generally 9 to 14 days long, and we can hunt September through
October, January through February, or May through July.
If you're fortunate
enough to be the winning bidder of the New
Mexico governor's
permit you can choose to hunt either a desert or Rocky
Mountain sheep with one area designated for desert and a choice
of three areas for Rocky Mountain. New Mexico has some excellent
sheep hunting with desert sheep in the 170's and Rocky Mountain
sheep in the 180's.
Lion
Working
with the dogs, and the thrill of the chase, make lion season something
that every houndsman looks forward to. There's no sweeter
sound than that of the dogs when they've treed, and no prettier
sight than that of a big tom crouched in a ponderosa.
We cover a lot
of territory during this hunt in either the pickup or six wheeler,
looking for fresh tracks. Snow makes trailing easier, and if your
schedule is flexible that helps a lot.
This
is an all time favorite and how we originally got started in the
outfitting business.
