New Hunt - Archery Mule Deer

A NEW HUNT FOR US IS our Archery Mule Deer hunt which takes place during the January rut and is held on our exclusive Double H Ranch.

We know the big bucks are there from aerial surveys and hunting them during the rut with bows is a challenging experience. The bucks, once again, come out of the thick timber to accompany the does.

You'll see more deer, by far, on this hunt than either the muzzleloader or rifle seasons making it a spectacular event. We hunt the archery season by using tree stands, rattling and calling, and spot and stock.

Attempting to harvest a mule deer with a bow is for the strong at heart, but the rewards are immense.

Coues Deer

Whether we're hunting the sunny slopes of Sonora Mexico or the rugged terrain of the Gila Mountains here at home, our search for the elusive "gray ghost" of the desert continues year after year.

These two hunts are quite unique. On the one it may be in the 70's in December with "senoritas and margaritas", and on the other it's a wall tent with the possibility of snow, standing by a campfire with your hands wrapped around a coffee cup.

One of the distinctive differences in the two hunts is the size and number of coues deer. The Sonora area has an abundance of deer with scores in the 90's to 100's and the ability to hunt two deer if you wish, whereas on our New Mexico hunt the number of coues is not as high but we have taken bucks in the 110 to 120 category. Coues of that size are a true trophy and one you will have to work for.

Either way coues deer hunting is a memorable experience and one that we personally look forward to each year.
